Mark Porter is a technology executive who has spent his career building and scaling the infrastructure behind some of the world’s most demanding software companies. He most recently served as CTO of dbt Labs, and before that as CTO of MongoDB, where he set the long-term technical vision for the database powering a generation of modern applications. Earlier, he was CTO of Core Technology and Transport at Grab, Southeast Asia’s super app, and spent five-plus years as a General Manager at AWS leading Amazon RDS, Aurora, and the Database Migration Service.
His earlier career includes engineering leadership roles at Oracle, where he was an early member of the Database Kernel group, NewsCorp, and NASA/JPL. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Super Technologies and has previously served on the boards of GitLab and MongoDB, with advisory roles at MariaDB and other private companies. He holds a BS in Engineering and Applied Science from Caltech.
Mark bought his first computer at age 11, learned BASIC and Z-80 assembly soon after, and has been coding professionally since he was 16, a habit he’s recently returned to with renewed enthusiasm in the age of AI-assisted development.
